Making a healthy difference

Welcome to the Austin Family Farm

The Austin Family Farm is nestled in a pristine mountain valley at the edge of Colorado’s West Elk Wilderness Area near Paonia. We are Glenn and Tony Austin. Our focus has been on nurturing the soil in order to produce crops that maintain a healthy environment. Our philosphy is healthy soils produce healthy plants, that produce healthy animals, that produce healthy people. We believe for better health, it is important for you to know who grows your food, how and where it is produced.
Fulfilling our farming dreams, there are 4 generations living on and working the family farm. The youngest are already involved in raising pigs, chickens, cattle and horses, along with growing fruit and veggies.
The original planting of our orchards in 1992 included 7000 trees: Apples, peaches, plums, cherries, nectarines and apricots. Since then, we have planted blackberries, raspberries and grapes. Also, we have added honey, eggs, meat chickens, and beef. We have continued to expand, develop, rotate and fine tune a variety of crops to produce great tasting, nutritionally dense, naturally grown fruits and vegetables. We pay special attention to sustainable growing through soil and pest management programs.

We like to share our love for farming with others. Culinary Arts students, school groups, interns, upcoming organic farmers and families are often found touring the farm and joining in the activities. We welcome the opportunity to share our passion for this simple life with all who desire to get closer to the soils that sustain them. If you would like to visit the farm please call and set up a time. Hopefully the information we share will help others appreciate a new vision for responsible care of the land.
